Abstract:
A novel monopole antenna with dual-band operation for wireless local area networks (WLAN) is presented inthis article. The antenna is composed of symmetrical strips and a ground plane on the other side, both printed on an FR4substrate with a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a substrate thickness of 1.6mm, and is fed by a microstrip feedline. The antennahas a compact dimensions of 26 mm×20 mm×1.6 mm. The measured results explore broadband dual-frequency operation with-10db impedance bandwidths range from 2.3 to 2.5 GHz and 4.7 to 6.8 GHz, which cover the 2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN operating bands. Also, good omnidirectional radiation patterns have been achieved. The antenna has an average gain of 2dBi in lowerband and 3.7dBi in higher band.
