Abstract:
Development of mobile communication has brought a great challenge to the miniaturization of microwave elements. Left-handed materials (LHM) have negative dielectric permittivity and magnetic permeability, which makes them widely be used in the miniaturized design of antennas and filters. Three novel 2-order band-pass filters (BPF) based on SRRs which are the basic structures of LHM are presented in this paper. Proposed structures have a great advantage of reducing the central frequency of the filter, which is the representation of miniaturization. Of the three filters, the size of the one with overlapped resonating units which are in series is about 11% of that of the single layer filter, which shows a good effect of miniaturization. Measurement results are in good agreement with simulation ones, which demonstrates the validity of the proposed structures.
