Abstract:
In this paper, a zeroth-order resonating electrically small antenna (ESA) with dual-band characteristics is proposed. The present antenna is mainly composed of the dielectric substrate, ground, patch with interdigital capacitance, inductive meander line and a rounded rectangle virtual ground, and has an electrically small size (the electrical size is 0. 75). The proposed antenna exhibits dual-band behavior with the first and second bands centered at 1. 22 GHz and 2. 78 GHz, respectively, with the corresponding impedance bandwidths of 3. 28% and 27. 34%, respectively. The proposed antenna operates at GPS L2 (Global Position System, 1220 MHz) and WiMAX (World Interoperability for Microwave Access, 2500- 2700 MHz) and shows good radiation characteristics with an average peak gain of 1. 0 dBi and 1. 72 dBi and average radiation efficiency of 53. 12% and 74. 07% for the first and second bands, respectively. The prototype structure is fabricated and experimentally validated, and the measured and simulated results are in good agreement.
