Broadband Multifunctional Dual-polarized Dipole Antenna and Array

    • A design approach that solely optimizes the feed balun to realize a dual-polarized dipole antenna element is presented. Based on this antenna element, a 1×4 antenna array is constructed. Both the antenna element and array feature wide bandwidth, low profile, and simple structure. Firstly, by only utilizing the proposed method of optimizing the feed balun design, the particle swarm algorithm is applied to jointly optimize the key orthogonal parameters at multiple frequency points of the feed balun. As a result, even with a simple dipole structure as the radiator, the antenna element can also achieve both wide bandwidth performance and low profile structural advantages. Secondly, for long-range indoor communication scenarios, the proposed antenna element are configured into a 1×4 array. Finally, the proposed antenna element and array are fabricated and tested. The measure results show that at the lowest operating frequency of 2 400 MHz, both the antenna element and array exhibit a profile of 0.14 λ0 (λ0 is the free-space wavelength at the lowest operating frequency). Both the antenna element and array cover the WiFi and 5G communication bands, satisfying the multifunctional needs of indoor scenarios.
