Review of the Endfire Antennas Based on Spoof Surface Plasmon Polaritons
-
Abstract
Spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPP) is a subwavelength surface electromagnetic wave mode transmitted and controlled in microwave and terahertz bands by designing a periodic structure. It is widely used in many fields since its electromagnetic properties such as strong field confinement and adjustable dispersion. Large dispersions of SSPP help to achieve miniaturization and low profile of endfire antennas. The tunable dispersions provide flexibility in endfire antenna design. This paper reviews the research progress of SSPP endfire antennas, categorizes the mechanism of these antennas and explores the relationship between the performance and structure. Finally, this paper summarizes the current technical challenges that affect the further development of SSPP endfire antennas and introduce some related advanced works to provide reference for the development and application of new endfire antennas.
