    Microwave Joining of Alumina

    • A new butt joining method of ceramics by microwave heating was rapidly developed recently. Microwave joining has advantages such as high joining strength, rapid, local heating and precise temperature control. A magnetron at 2.45 GHz was used as the power generator. The heating system can control an iris, a plunger and the microwave power to maintain the optimal heating power. The system was applied to alumina-alumina direct joining and there is little difference in microstructure before and after joining. It is believed that this is the first trial done in China.
