A New Microwave Heating System for Processing of Ceramics

Abstract
A new type of microwave heating system with a multimode cavity was constructed based on the principle of circularly polarized antenna.Polarized electromagnetic fields were formed inside the cavity by the application of a 3dB bridge and two coupling apertures perpendicular to each other,which greatly improved the heating uniformity.Advanced ceramics,such as ZTA,ZrO 2,Si 3N 4,etc. were successfully sintered using the system in combination with a suitable thermal insulator.The new system was characterized by high efficiency,simple construction and good performance.
