Research on Radiation Performance of a Peano Fractal Loaded Monopole
-
Abstract
Effect of a finite ground plane and filled dielectric on radiation performance of a Peano fractal loaded mono- pole antenna is presented. The return loss, radiation pattern and gain of the antenna with different finite ground plane size and filled dielectric were analyzed by HFSS. The simulation results show that impedance bandwidth and gain of the antenna are decreased, pattern in H-plane changes little, 3dB beam width is wider and elevation angle is smaller in E-plane when the size of finite ground plane is decreased. High permittivity of filled dielectric results in the deterioration of performance of the antenna. Based on the analysis, Peano fractal loaded monopole antenna of order 1 and order 2 were designed and fabricated with a ground plane of 220mm ~ 220mm. Elevation angles of these two antennas are 45° and 36° ,3dB beam widths are 50° and 45°, respectively. Simulation and measured results indicate that it is a simple and effective method to adjust 3dB beam width and elevation angle of Peano fractal structure loaded monopole antenna by adjusting the finite ground plane sizes.
