A Novel Dual Band High Gain and High Directivity Microstrip Patch Antenna Based on Zero Index Metamaterial

Abstract
Based on special electromagnetic characteristic of dual layer symmetry single ring resonator pair cell, a novel anisotropic metamaterial is designed. A novel of dual band zero index microwave antenna of 5.15GHz and 6. 8GHz is proposed with an application of zero index metamaterial structure. Compared to the conventional microwave antenna, the results show that the performance of the dualband zeroindex microstrip antenna has improved remarkably, which has a lower lateral radiation, an enhanced forward radiation. At lower operating frequencies, the half power beam widths (HPBW) of E and H plane of the zero index microwave antenna is reduced by 29°and 10°, respectively, the gain is increased by 2.2 dB.At higher operating frequency, the HPBW of the zero index microwave antenna is reduced by 16 for both E and H plane,an increasing of 2.4 dB for the gain. It is an efficiency method to design dual band microwave antenna with good performance by applying zero index metamaterial in the antenna.
