A Wideband Antenna by Loading Metasurface Structure

    • In this paper, a kind of broadband microstrip antennas is designed by loading metasurface (Metasurface, MTS). Replacing the traditional rectangular radiation patch with the metasurface structure, the electrical properties is improved. The antenna is fed through a stepped aperture of a coplanar waveguide. The metasurface is printed on the top of the dielectric plate, and the coplanar waveguide feed circuit is on the bottom. The combination of electrical performance metasurface and stepped aperture makes the antenna obtain a wide impedance bandwidth. The antenna proposed in this paper is simple in structure and compact in appearance. The -10 dB relative impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is about 56. 4% (7~12. 5 GHz), covering the full X-band, and the main radiation direction deviated from the normal direction is about 30°. The experimental test results are in good agreement with the simulated design results. It provides ideas for reconnaissance and detection in military field and antenna design in UWB short-range indoor positioning.
